Pinguy OS overview

Posted by TnTonly On March - 19 - 2011

I have just come across just-another-Linux-distro called Pinguy. After downloading 1.3 GB to create a live DVD, I have actually tried using this. The outcome is absolutely unexpected. This Pinguy OS is really a nice Linux distro with everything out-of-the-box. I know there are many customised distros that claim themselves “everything out-of-the-box” but this one is really different.

So what about the developer of Pinguy talk about it?

Pinguy OS an out-of-the-box working operating system for everyone, not just geeks ;)

This OS is for people that have never used Linux before or for people that just want an out-of-the-box working OS without doing all the tweaks and enhancements that everyone seems to do when installing a fresh copy of Ubuntu or other Linux based Distro’s.

You can download the distro and read more about it here http://pinguy-os.sourceforge.net/

iRiver Cover Story Touch unboxing and review

Posted by TnTonly On March - 16 - 2011

Hello everyone, I’m back with an all new unboxing video and a full-length review. This time I have a iRiver Cover Story Touch EB05W, an ebook reader with e-ink touchscreen. I got this one from www.waterstones.com with £99.99 which I think is a real bargain (The same one from www.iriver.co.uk costs £179.99, fyi)

However, compared to the well-known Amazon Kindle 3 Wifi with the price of £111, is the Cover Story Touch really worth it? We will cover that in a minute.

Before I start, there is something I want to say. This one is an ebook reader, not a tablet or something, so please, do not compare this one to the nook Color or, obviously, the iPad, or any other tablet. I know, nook Color is an ebook reader, and iPad has an amazing iBook application for reading ebook. However they are not in the same category. The nook Color and the iPad don’t have e-ink screen, and obviously the Cover Story Touch, and also the Amazon Kindle, can’t browse websites. Therefore as you are gonna see, in most of my review I will compare my iRiver to the Kindle, simply because they are in the same category. Of course the Sony readers may fit in the category too, but I haven’t used any, and also Kindle is the most well-known eReader out there, so fair enough.

So let’s start with the unboxing

UDK new 2011 demo (Samaritan) released

Posted by TnTonly On March - 13 - 2011

I still remember when I was a high-school student, one of my friends told me, he “only” wanted to play a game with real time graphics as the pre-rendered cutscene of Final Fantasy X. I laughed and said “No Takaji (his name), that days will never come. The game graphics has reached its limit. Your dream would never come true”

But the fact has proven me wrong. The game graphics nowadays are way past the graphics of a pre-rendered cutscene of the games in 2002. Everything looks so real, which sometimes we could never tell it is a game or not. And when realistic is not enough, the graphics in games even goes further, beyond what we call “real”.

Witness the power of Unreal Game Engine by the following video. May be you don’t believe, but everything in the scene is rendered in real-life. There will soon be a lot of games with graphics like this. It’s truly… “unreal”

Video Today

After the long wait, my Google Nexus 7 has finally arrived! Having seen so many “fail” unboxing videos before, I took extra precaution while unboxing the tablet. Fortunately the unboxing processed smoothly.

It is certainly worth the wait. My first impression of the Google Nexus 7 is that it is a superb build quality, amazing performance, nice screen and incredible Jelly Bean. All that for only £159. I will use this for a while and will create a review later, but for now I’m totally satisfy with it.
